Slovak Medical University in Bratislava, often shortened to SMU or SZU, offers English-taught General Medicine at its Faculty of Medicine. It is a very small international route compared with the larger Slovak medical faculties.
For 2026/27, SMU lists a 6-year MUDr. General Medicine program, 15 planned admitted applicants, EUR 10,000/year tuition and an in-person written Biology/Chemistry entrance exam in Bratislava on 1 July 2026. Because the intake is small, applicants should take the document deadline and exam preparation seriously.

Tuition, fees and living costs

SMU publishes tuition in EUR. The official admission document lists General Medicine tuition at EUR 10,000 per academic year and the admission procedure fee at EUR 70.
Bratislava is usually the most expensive Slovak study city. For planning, use roughly EUR 700-900 per month before flights, deposits, visa expenses and one-time setup costs.

No university accommodation

SMU states that it does not provide accommodation for students in the English-language General Medicine program. Applicants should plan private housing early.

Small intake

The planned number is 15 admitted applicants. This makes the route more niche than Comenius, Jessenius or UPJŠ.

Recognition and licensing

SMU is a Slovak public healthcare university. Slovakia is an EU member state, but professional recognition and licensing still depend on the rules in the country where graduates want to work after graduation.

Student life in Bratislava

SMU is in Bratislava, which gives students access to the capital-city transport, hospitals, private rentals and international connections. The tradeoff is budget: private housing can be the largest recurring cost because SMU does not provide accommodation for this English-language route.
