The Second Faculty of Medicine is one of Charles University's five medical faculties and offers English-taught General Medicine in Prague. Its main student decision point is not program choice, but whether the faculty's Motol hospital setting, paediatric emphasis and entrance-exam model fit the way you want to study medicine.
The official LF2 course page lists General Medicine as a six-year, full-time, English-taught course starting in October. Teaching is tied to the Plzenská campus and Motol University Hospital, with clinical internships also taking place in other Czech and international medical facilities.
Best fit
Applicants who want Charles University Medicine in Prague with a smaller-faculty environment, strong hospital exposure and a curriculum that keeps paediatric and developmental medicine visible.
Watch out for
LF2 is Medicine-only for our current route map. Dentistry applicants should compare other Charles faculties, and all applicants need to prepare for Biology, Chemistry, Physics, logic and interview performance.
English-taught program at the Second Faculty
LF2 currently has one Medimentor-linked English route: General Medicine. Use the program page for the deeper admissions, curriculum and exam breakdown.
CZK 420,000 per year for students first enrolled in 2026/2027
Secondary school graduation certificate plus entrance exam, unless the faculty grants an exemption
Admissions overview
For 2026/2027 entry, LF2 states that electronic applications are accepted from 1 November 2025 to 30 April 2026. The application fee is CZK 2,500, and applicants select the General Medicine programme in English in the Charles University Student Information System.
Prague exam dates
The official key-dates page lists a regular Prague entrance exam on 27 May 2026 and an alternative Prague date on 15 July 2026, both with the same 30 April registration deadline.
Typical documents
Electronic application and application-fee payment.
Secondary school diploma or certificate, with foreign education assessment where required.
Passport/ID and any faculty-requested documents for your route or exemption request.
Second Faculty entrance exam
LF2 uses a two-part admission procedure: a written multiple-choice test followed by an interview for applicants with the best written-test results according to the dean's decision. The faculty publishes topic lists and sample questions separately.
Written test
75 questions
20 Biology, 20 Physics, 20 Chemistry and 15 logic questions.
Timing
90 minutes
The written test is completed in one 90-minute sitting.
Points
225 max
The written section is worth up to 225 points and is marked anonymously.
Interview
Up to 90
Applicants draw two discussion topics and defend medicine-related ideas in front of a committee.
This exam is broader than the Biology/Chemistry-only model at some other universities. For LF2, students should treat Physics, logic and the interview as real preparation areas, not side notes.
Tuition, fees and living costs
LF2 lists tuition for students first enrolled in 2026/2027 at CZK 420,000 per year. The official fee page also notes that tuition does not include living and other study costs.
Prague budgeting depends heavily on accommodation. LF2's living-and-housing page gives a dormitory-heavy yearly estimate, while shared Medimentor planning uses roughly EUR 850-1,200 per month for Prague once private housing, deposits, insurance, food and day-to-day variation are considered.
Recognition and licensing
LF2 lists the English General Medicine course as nationally accredited and references recognition/listings including the World Directory of Medical Schools, WFME, Medical Board of California and Medical Council of Thailand. This is useful, but licensing after graduation still depends on the country where the graduate wants to practise.
Student life in Prague and Motol
The Second Faculty is based around Motol in Prague 5. The faculty highlights good metro access, dormitory options, student support services, psychological counselling, the Pelican Buddy Programme and the Association of International Medical Students for international student onboarding.
Motol hospital setting
Most clinical teaching takes place in children's and adult departments at Motol University Hospital, with some teaching also at Na Bulovce Hospital and the Military University Hospital.
Paediatric angle
LF2 grew from the former Faculty of Paediatrics and still says teaching is enriched with developmental and paediatric aspects of medicine.
How Medimentor helps
Medimentor helps LF2 applicants prepare for the science-heavy part of the entrance exam and plan the application path. The most relevant prep areas are Biology, Chemistry, Physics, exam-style repetition, English medical vocabulary and a clear timeline for documents, fees and exam dates.
